‘Dare To Be Different
I wrote this for my wife, Joey. It is a tribute to the woman she is. The melody came to me one day while I was messing around with my beautiful resonator. I was practicing playing slide guitar at the time. Once I had it, I literally played it day in and day out for two or three months while waiting for the lyrics to come. Joey (my wife) thought I was going mad, I think.
When the words finally matured, they came in a flood. Pure and simple. She cried the first time I sang it to her. The basic rhythm tracks were done in the Brunswick studio and again, nailed on the third run-through. My guitar parts were done on my own time in my own studio.
The horns, arranged beautifully by Chris Vizard, took the song to a whole new level.
I recorded the final vocal after the horns were added as they gave me so much emotion to work off. Joey still gets teary when she hears it.
