about

‘Rising Tide’
We got the basic rhythm/piano tracks down at the Brunswick studio. It took four goes, more to do with tempo than anything else. I got Dave Hogan to add the harp passes at my place and overdubbed the guitars and vocals as well. I got the idea for the song while on a train from Melbourne to Sydney. I was looking out the window watching the country roll on by. I wrote a post on FB about it. “The countryside was rolling by as minutes chased the miles outside my window”... Someone commented that it would be a good line in a song. I had to agree, so I used it. '
It is something of a hybrid. Very new in the verses and melody, but something old and pretty much unused in each chorus. The song is about ‘now’. The rising tide can be what you like. Social media, climate change, popular opinion, etc. I confess that I was trying to emulate Mr. Dylan in being cryptic in a straightforward manner, here’s my take, insert yours where applicable. The song is about the journey. Not a journey, but THE journey. Life. The last two verses sum it all up.
It twists and rambles but moves ever on.
